A Profile-Mother Theresa
Mother Theresa the patroness of this school was born in Skopje in Yugoslavia. When she was twelve years old, she made up her mind to live for the poor. When she was eighteen years old she left her family. She heard that Loretto nuns had been doing excellent service in Kolkata. She came to India. Before she went to Kolkata someone asked her, ‘What have you been doing in Patna?’ She answered; I have been getting some training in nursing the sick and the dying. When she went to Kolkata, she started school in a Slum area. At first, five children were picked up from the streets by her. There was no proper building. She had just five rupees with her when she started school. Ten girls who had been receiving education from Mother Theresa in Loretto Convent joined her as teachers. She began to shed tears at the sight of people dying without anyone to care for them. The first dying woman whom Mother Theresa took to the hospital died within a few hours. The municipality gave her a small building to work in. She took in children who had been abandoned on the streets. She took in children who had been abandoned on the streets. She also took care of people affected by leprosy who had been neglected by the people. Girls from middle and rich-class families joined her in relieving the misery of the poor. What was the secret of Mother Theresa’s Success? “Faith is a gift of God”, said Mother Theresa. Without faith there would be no life”. Mother Theresa used to say, “Serve the poor and suffering. God will raise you to the highest place”. The greatness of her work is known all over the world. She was awarded the Oscar award in 1975, the Nobel Peace prize in 1979. Bharat Ratna in 1980. She died on 5th September 1997.
